HIV and AIDS
Policy and Objectives
Kairos Industrial Chemicals (hereafter ‘the company’), a Botswana based company:
- acknowledges the seriousness of the implications of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the workplace;
- recognizes that the sustained health of our employees is integral to achieving our mission and to the success of our business;
- recognizes that the HIV/AIDS epidemic represents a health threat in the company operations in sub-Saharan Africa, and in particular Botswana.
The company assures access to affordable health care for employees through the company’s facilities. In addition, the company is committed to prompt and supportive action in response to any major health threats in the region within which the company operates.
Kairos Industrial Chemicals will strive to:
- create a conductive environment in the workplace in order to eliminate stigma and unfair discrimination arising from the disease, and uphold the rights and dignity of affected employees, in effective dealing with the epidemic;
- prevent and restrict the disease through education, the provision of condoms and the effective treatment of sexually acquired infections;
- provide voluntary counseling and testing services to employees that are confidential, with informed written consent, accompanied by prescribed pre- and post-test counseling, and confined to a health care worker and patient relationship;
- provide care for employees’ infection with the virus through comprehensive clinics benefit, including the provision of antiretroviral treatment to employees where this is medically indicated and sustainable;
- provide support for those employees no longer able to fulfill their role in the company through an ill-health retirement programme linked to home-based care programmes;
- monitor and evaluate our performance in our HIV/AIDS programmes, working to continually improve our performance;
- ensure that employees are aware of this policy and their relevant responsibilities by making such policies accessible to each employee;
- participate in community programmes dealing with the epidemic, supporting a more broad-based approach;
- partner with all stakeholders to contribute to effectively dealing with the epidemic.

Environmental Policy
Purpose
The Managing Director has the overall responsibility and authority for the manufacturing and development of environmentally acceptable products that comply with companies that are ISO 14001 approved.
Kairos Industrial Chemicals also has the responsibility to provide products for the whole of Botswana that comply with BOBS standards to prevent any damage to the environment and ecological system.
Managing Director
Approves all products that comply with the standards which have been dotted down in the Environment Managing Program.
Ensure that all work affecting quality of products, performance, environmental properties and service is correct.
To establish, document and maintain a quality system as a means of ensuring that products conforms to the specified requirements.
Monitors the control and effectiveness of the products for the environment and updates as and when required.
Promote a company image of efficiency, quality and service, by giving customers the assurance that their requirements are met.
All sealable products, where necessary, are identified and traceable to specification.
Methods employed for identification and traceability are:
- batch numbers
- work order numbers
- code numbers
- records of material certificate.
All work processes and resources are managed, controlled, documented and co-ordinated among manufacturing and other departments.
To see that personnel will be trained to achieve the levels of experience, qualification,
enhance productivity and efficiency, as well as to continue to increase customer satisfaction.
Environmental Principles
The preservation of the environment and the responsible and sustainable use of resources are of great importance to Kairos Industrial Chemicals. For this reason we have developed an environmental policy.
- Kairos Industrial Chemicals strives to minimize and, wherever possiible, eliminate the release of any pollutant that may cause environmental damage.
- Wherever possible we will minimize waste and disposal of waste through safe and responsible methods.
- We strive to minimize the safety, environmental and heath risks to our employees, community and customers.
- Customers are informed of all risks associated with the use of our products.
